Classic, Volume, or Hybrid lashes?

You’ve heard or read the terms “classic eyelash extensions” or “volume eyelash extensions” and there is also a 3rd option available called “hybrid eyelash extensions”! What do they mean? How can you tell which one to get? Read on for more information on all three lash options before booking your eyelash extension appointment in Vancouver.

Classic eyelash extensions
The method for classic lash extensions is applying one extension to one natural lash. For that reason, some call it 1:1 lashes. It used to be the only option available, and can sometimes be referred to as the traditional extensions.

Classic eyelash extension weights are generally 0.12, 0.15, or 0.18, some lash artists also use 0.20 and 0.25. At Eye Love Lashes YVR we only use diameters from 0.12-0.18 depending on the client’s natural lash. Since the number of lashes applied match the amount of natural lashes you have, classic lash extensions are great for those who naturally have a full lash line.

One thing to keep in mind is that someone with a full lash line of short lashes will not have the same results as someone with a full lash line but long lashes. This is because your lash artist has to choose a diameter and weight combination that will not damage your natural lash (by twisting or falling prematurely). To keep it simple (because there are some exceptions), someone with short lashes can get lashes to increase length but will have to go down in thickness. Those blessed with naturally long lashes can manage thicker extensions but not going all out on length as well.

With classic eyelash extensions in Vancouver, you’ll benefit from added length and a long-lasting curl – say goodbye to mascara and eyelash curlers!

Volume eyelash extensions
Volume lashes are often referred to as “Russian volume” or “Russian lashes”; this is because the technique originated from Russia and Ukraine. With volume lashes, you can have 2+ extensions per lash; volume is 2-6, and mega volume is considered anything above 6 extensions per natural lash. With volume eyelash extensions, the lash artist manually creates fans. You’ll sometimes see volume sets described as 2D, 3D, 4D, etc – this explains how many extensions per natural lash.

Because there are several extensions per lash, volume lashes are much thinner and come in thinner diameters: 0.03, 0.05, 0.06, 0.07 and 0.10. Your lash artist is able to create larger fans with 0.03, while the 0.10 is generally used for 2D-3D fans. Some may worry that volume lashes are “too much” or can look like a caterpillar on your eyelid, but since fans are custom-created your lash artist can choose the proper amount to suit your look –a 4D set will not look the same as a 6D set! The general rule with volume lashing is that your lash artist should keep the length close to your natural lash length since we are adding weight with more lashes.

Volume lash extensions is a great option for those who have less natural lashes, or even for those who have a full lash line but looking for a little extra oomph.

Hybrid eyelash extensions
A hybrid lash set is a mix of classic and volume, as simple as that! Just like with a volume set, the hybrid lash set can be customized to be more or less full depending on the look you’re going for. You can choose to have a more wispy look with the classic extensions longer than the volume fans, or you may want something completely different.

Getting a set of eyelash extensions with Eye Love Lashes YVR means going through a thorough consultation at the start of each first appointment to determine what you like and don’t like and to answer any questions you have about the process.
